This is project would not be possible without many, many people taking the time to work with us. Sometimes, these people are old friends. Other times, they are new acquaintances. In all cases we are seriously grateful for the people who have helped make this project go.
Funding
AT&T New Media Fellowship – This is the award that bought the tickets and provided the budget to send us to Ireland. It is foundational to our project being a reality.
The Watson Institute for International Studies – Our cameras, co-oridnation, and general sense of being part of a Global Conversation, comes from our affiliation with the Watson. We wish those lovely people in Providence the best of luck!
People in Ireland
Ray Bell – Chairman of St. Rynagh’s GAA Football Club in Cloghan, Co. Offaly, Ray is without a doubt one of the most generous people in the world. Not content to invite two strangers out to see his club, Ray co-ordinated our interviews, found us a wonderful bed & breakfast, and even drove us through pretty much the entirety of the County to show us the sites. A Perfect Gentleman!
Ciaran Goan – Former Chairman at St. Slyvester’s GAA Club in Malahide outside of Dublin, Ciaran took us to a senior club fixture and introduced us all around, giving us a full game of footage and interviews. When our umbrella broke, he gave us his to protect the camera, and when the rain persisted he insisted on driving us back to town and giving us a proper tour. Thanks Ciaran!
Tom Potts – Member of Nemo Rangers and a hurling expert, Tom introduced us to the GAA life in Cork. He was a most knowledgeable tour-guide, with thoughts on the inner political workings of the GAA as well as its modern approaches to facilities and management. Cheers Tom!
Ross O’Carroll - Football and Hurling stand-out at Kilmacud Crokes, Ross has been a part of numerous Dublin inter-county squads and instructed us on how to actually play hurling, a long awaited lesson! As patient as he is talented, Ross has improved our grasp on what playing gaelic games means to the young people who comprise its most competitive levels. We wish him luck in everything he does!
Everyone in Cloghan and at St. Rynagh’s GAA Football Club – That includes Garry, PJ, Stephen, Enda, Carmen and everyone else who chatted with us and made Irish hospitality and item of legend!
At home in the States
The Brogan Family – Keep reading! May you all be in Ireland someday soon!
Grady & Gail Sullivan-McCune – Went to Cork, as promised, and have gifts in tow!
Tom Rodelli, Lucy Seyfarth, Dave Gagnon, Lise Rahdert, Pat Ambrus, Lindsay Ray, Kylie, Auntie Joyce and all the rest of our dear friends who have kept the comments flowing. It’s good to hear what you all think even out in the Irish countryside! Keep commenting!
